PRESS RELEASE - 11th NOVEMBER 2009
PETER CALLS FOR ACTION TO TACKLE FAT CAT SALARIES
SOUTH WEST NORFOLK, 11 November 2009: Peter Smith, Labour's Prospective Parliamentary candidate for SW Norfolk, urges Breckland and King's Lynn and West Norfolk District Councils and Norfolk County Council to tackle fat cat salaries when negotiating council contracts.
As evidence has emerged that FTSE 100 CEOs are still receiving bonuses of up to 90% of their basic pay and city bonuses of around £4 billion are predicted in 2009 it is vital that local councils do not use taxpayer's money to exacerbate pay inequalities and the irresponsible bonus culture.
Peter says:
"Procurement contracts totalling millions of pounds of taxpayer's money are allocated by councils to private companies every year. Councils should not award contracts to companies which have an irresponsible bonus culture or award excessive salaries to their executives."
