   The Green Debate

Act on CO2 LogoThe Government's Committee on Climate Change has just made its recommendations , and they are certain to prove controversial.

In order to reduce emissions by 2-3% every year until 2050, which is what the Committee says is necessary, it suggests:

  1. The Government should consider imposing road pricing, in addition to the existing fuel duty
  2. The current speed limit of 70mph should be rigorously enforced, and maybe reduced further to 60mph
  3. 240,000 electric cars should be in use in the UK by 2015. This should rise to 1,7 million by 2020
  4. 8000 more wind turbines should be in place by 2020
  5. 3 new nuclear power stations should be built
  6. 4 coal plants with carbon capture and storage systems should be built
  7. There should be a national programme to insulate homes and install efficient condensing boilers

Peter however, would like to know what you think of these recommendations. The survey will take no longer than 5 minutes to complete, but will help tremendously in understanding the views of local residents.

If you would like to discuss green issues with Peter, or let him know exactly what you think, then send him an email on: petros.smith47@googlemail.com
